While doing some recent Christmas shopping, I noticed something. It wasn't the sparkling Christmas lights, or the smell of a Frasier fur Christmas trees, it was attitude. The general demeanor and attitude of all the people around me got me thinking; why is everyone so angry?
For example, my mother and I decided to go have lunch at a nice restaurant. While walking up to the front door we were blocked from entering. The hostess was sweeping off the front door rug. She continued sweeping while my mother and I stood there hoping to enter the restaurant. Only when the hostess starting sweeping in another area did we get to enter the restaurant, lucky us. Once inside we waited and waited and waited. Finally, a server came up and asked us if we had been helped. Once he started shuffling menus, the hostess came trudging in as if we were inconveniencing her. This was just the first of many other attitudes I noticed through out the day.
Holidays are supposed to be about giving and happiness, no matter what holiday you celebrate. So why is everyone so mad? I believe it is our consumer driven society. It seems that everyone is so preoccupied with purchasing the best presents for friends and family that they get thrown into a frenzy.
We have to remember that the purpose of the holiday season is to celebrate religious holidays, but also to be thankful for our friends and family. So instead of being stressed out from shopping or panicked over what you are going to cook for your holiday dinner, slow down and be thankful that you are having a holiday.
Happy holidays!
