Last Tuesday, Georgia State had its 7th Annual Golf Cart Parade, which traveled around the main campus exhibiting a large fleet of golf carts that had been loaned to and decorated by various fraternities, sororities, and other student organizations.
The parade began its route at the Commons just as most students were getting out of class for their lunch breaks. Golf cart after golf cart drove down the street bearing signs claiming the golf cart’s for their respective student organization. Each cart had its own unique decoration of some kind or another. One float showcased this year’s homecoming court. The long caravan of golf carts traveled from the Commons and arrived on campus just as most students were getting lunch.
Some bystanders cheered and waved to the people riding in the golf carts, who would wave back and smile at the fact that they are apart of the Golf Cart Parade. The school spirit carries on strong even in doing something as simple as having an exceptionally long caravan of golf carts.
“This is strange,” one student said. “Where did all of these golf carts even come from?”
The size of Georgia State University’s golf cart fleet is quite impressive. The single file line of golf carts easily stretched over a mile long, giving bystanders well over 20 minutes of golf carts rolling down the street, one after the other.
As the string of golf carts paraded on, the single float seemed out of place. The homecoming court deserted it before the parade had completed its route so that they could get to class in ample time.
“Shouldn’t there be more floats?” one student remarked. “A parade of golf carts seems kind of underachieving.”
Hopefully, students will see more floats in future parades after Georgia State University gets a football team.
The parade was just one event of the entire past week celebrating Homecoming this year.
Students were not so impressed with the single-file display of the Georgia State Golf Cart Fleet, which encroached on becoming a blockade as it approached 1 o’clock.
“If I hadn’t cut through [the golf cart blockade], I would’ve been late for my class,” one student said.
“This is pointless and annoying because I can’t get across the street,” another student said. “I can only wonder what kind of havoc this wreaks on surrounding traffic.”
Several other students expressed their thoughts on how looney the parade of golf carts was, but others were sightly more enthusiastic.
“I mean, it’s a parade of golf carts” one student clarified. “Someone obviously thinks it’s a good idea.”
