The Regal Theatre in Atlantic Station offers student discounts.

In a tough economy such as this, where tuition and fees are constantly rising, it always helps when discounts are given for the rainy days that college students constantly run into. Fortunately, with a student ID, students can cut the cost of certain expenses.

At the front desk of the Student Center, for instance, students can get movie tickets for as low as $6 by showing their ID. Tickets to Six Flags, the Georgia Aquarium, and other venues are also available. The front desk also offers a discount on snacks, such as Twix, Snickers, Doritos, and Mentos.

It is probably well-known that the Georgia State vending machine offers an 8% discount if a student uses their ID; however, some students might not know that the Georgia State bookstore offers 10% off merchandise on Fridays if they use Panther Cash. The merchandise available includes sweatshirts, t-shirts, water bottles, key chains and stationery supplies. Usually, on Fridays, there are not a lot of people of campus, so it’s a nice day to shop without the hassle of lines.  Using Panther Cash can also be convenient for students because it is a quick and easy way to pay, as opposed to paying in cash.

The Georgia State bookstore also offers MARTA discounts to students. Debit, credit, cash, and Panther Cash are all accepted.

Student IDs can become extremely useful while shopping on campus, but it can also be helpful to use off-campus at places such as Moe’s Southwest Grill and Quiznos. Both restaurants take Panthercash and offer student discounts. Moe’s offers a 10 percent discount with a student ID and Quiznos offers a 10 percent discount before 2 p.m. and a 20 percent discount after 2 p.m., with proper identification.

Students can also receive items for free at the library. Once again, with a student ID, students can check out the latest DVDs and CDs, even VHS and cassette tapes and vinyl records.

Not only does the Georgia State movie theater, Cinefest, offer loads of movies that can be seen for free, but it also provides discounted snacks and beverages. These include Coke products, water, Powerade, and candy such as Whoppers, Twix, Snickers. Everything costs $1.25, with the exception of water, $1, and Powerade, $1.50. The Cinefest movie theater is located in Suite 240 of the University Center.

Students have strongly expressed their grief in paying bill after bill and fee after fee, and discounts help in slowing the process of creating a hole in students’ pockets and are a great way to save. For general questions related to student services contact Georgia State at 404-413-2000.
