How long have you been a band? "Well, Baumer has been around for about four years, but we've had several lineup changes. With this lineup, probably only a year.
Where does "Baumer" come from? It's actually from the movie "The Royal Tenenbaums". "Baumer" is Richie Tenenbaum's nickname in the movie.
How did you all meet? We all met each other years ago. We all used to play in different bands, and once we started to play shows together we became friends. Once some of our bands broke up, we decided to form Baumer.
How has your tour been going? It feels really good to be back at it again. We just started back on the road, but so far things are going great.
Any horror stories from the road so far? (Laughs) No, not yet, luckily. At least not on this tour (knocks on table). The worst part so far has been the weather. We're lucky that that's it. Who are your main musical influences? Wow, this might take a while. Muse is a big one, and so are The Gay Blades. Jeff Buckley is another one. It's a big melting pot, basically. Way too many to fit into this interview, that's for sure.
What artists would you say Baumer sounds like? We hear from most people that we sound like a mixture of Muse and Nine Inch Nails. A lot of people say The Killers, New Order, and The Postal Service also.
So your new album comes out soon? Yep. It's called "Were It Not For You," and the official release date is 3/4/08. We recorded it about a year ago, so we're pretty excited about it finally being released. We worked really hard on it, so we can't wait to hear what people think.
How does your new album compare to your last one, "Come On, Feel It"? "Were It Not For You" is definitely a lot darker. It's a lot more cohesive also. Much more guitar than the last record. We really came together on this one, and we're really proud of it.
Is there anything you guys want to say to your fans? Besides 'buy the album' (laughs)? If we're in your town, come out and see us, you know, come say hi. We'd love to meet you guys. If you want to see any updates on Baumer, either go to our Myspace (www.myspace.com/baumer) or check out our website (www.danceforbaumer.com). We should have new songs from the album up on the websites really soon, so keep an eye out. We try to keep everything current and updated, so stop by."
