If going green is your thing, check out the "Find the Chevy in You" event this Thursday in front of Aderhold on Broad Street.

Several students from the marketing department are hosting this student-led campaign to inform the Georgia State community about the new alternative fuel sources that Chevy is offering with new car models.

"We want to find out how going green is personal to you," said Khalilah Alaman, head coordinator of the event. "We're making it relevant to the students."

The event will offer contests and activities, including America's Next Top Chevy, a "fashion show" where models will be dressed in clothing representative of the different fuel sources as they walk down a green runway.

Free food and drinks from several food and drinks will be provided from green vendors including, STEAZ, an organic tea company that will offer free samples at its booth.

The five fuel sources include:

Fuel Efficiency- cars that go 30 mpg or better on the road

Fuel Cell- cars powered with hydrogen based fuel

Electric- cars powered by a lithium-ion battery

Hybrid- cars powered by a mixture of electric and engine power

E85 Ethanol- cars that use 85% ethanol made from corn

The Chevy campaign is part of the Marketing 4900 class, a comprehensive course that reviews everything taught in Marketing.

On top of doing in-class work, the students spend time outside of class developing a plan for their campaigns.

"We do 99 percent of our project outside of class," said Tristan O'Brien, the Public Relations head of the campaign.

The class works closely with Capstone Marketing, who works with professional marketing groups, to develop the project.

"The creative process is done all by students," said O'Brien. The hard part, he says, is getting the motivation to start and finding time around job and class schedules to work on the project.

Making connections with local companies for sponsorship for the campaign has been an exciting challenge.

"We are pulling our resources and finding out who knows who," said Alaman. So far, the team has managed to get some gift cards and Verizon phones as giveaways. They have also scouted out HOT 107.9 to spin records at Thursday's event.

Once the event wraps up, the marketing students then do post-research on the effects of the campaign on students.
