Most people are probably familiar with Krystal, the American fast food restaurant chain that is famous for its small, square hamburgers, breakfast items like the eggs and sausage combo, and products like pancakes and grits. Well, Bill Curry, head football coach at Georgia State, was recently chosen as one of the fifteen inductees for the Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame.
The competition was a rigorous process, as applicants applying for the chance to be in the Krystal Lovers Hall of Fame were required to submit a story on what he or she considered to be his or her idea of a perfect meal. Curry submitted a story for what he considered to be the top restaurant in the Southern part of the United States of America. He was featured in an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article that highlighted his recent accomplishment, formally recognized by Mike Golic from ESPN.
"Curry, a former Georgia Tech, Alabama and Kentucky head coach, was selected after sending ESPN talk show host Mike Golic, what he billed as a seven-course meal from the very best restaurant in the South (Collier 2009)." Interestingly enough, the meal plan that he sent to Krystal was seven Krystal hamburgers on dry ice instead of a more traditional meal plan. There were more than fifteen thousand stories submitted and Coach Bill Curry's story was amongst the top entries.
Curry attended a special ceremony for his induction in February, in which a life size box of the new Krystal Hamburger box was revealed with his face on it. His face will be on the side of numerous Krystal Hamburger boxes all across the South, with a total of 400 restaurants in 11 states. This is certainly something to be proud of.
As impressive as this recent recognition is, Billy Curry has much more to be praised for. As well as being the coach of Georgia State University's new football program, he was previously head coach of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Kentucky Wildcats. In addition, he was a football player for the Georgia Tech team while he was in the NCCA, and during his years on the NFL he was a football player for the Green Bay Packers, Houston Oilers, Los Angeles Rams, and Baltimore Colts.
Krystal is a restaurant that is well known for its square burgers and the fact that it is open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week making it accessible to its customers at all times. It is particularly popular among college students, as it is a common site for competitive eating contests. To find out more about this franchise, you can visit www.krystal.com.
