A fashion show in London last year was entitled, “Bravehearts: Men in Skirts.” Yes, men in skirts — not kilts but aprons and dressing gowns and flounced knee-lengths. I shake my head as I write this, and I think of a time when it was taboo for a woman to wear pants.
What exactly is the big problem with women being women and men being men?
What was so wrong with a female wearing a dress and a male wearing pants?
Earlier generations had a benefit I will never experience. They could look at any person walking down the sidewalk, and they would know instantly if the individual were a girl or a guy. Sometimes I simply cannot tell, even after a second look. It could be a girl, but maybe not. That is definitely a guy; at least, I think it is.
Seriously, folks.
The idea of a man waltzing down a runway in a ball gown really bothers me. What bothers me even more is what was written at the entryway to this fashion show. The words “A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment” were hung up for all to see as they went in to watch the parade of sirs in stilettos. This phrase was an adaptation from the Bible. In Deuteronomy 22:5, it says, “The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.”
What? Why would you do that?
I am offended. I am offended because I am a Christian and these people are making light of the Bible. I am offended because I am a human and these people are giving us a bad name.
During the French Revolution, if the French people had put a big sign up on the guillotine with the words “Thou shalt not kill” scribbled on it—it would be the exact same thing.
“Oh, look at me; I have a great idea. Let’s make a poster with a Biblical principle on it in really big letters, and then let’s go around breaking it as much as we possible can.”
I have a much better idea. Women should go back to looking and acting like women, and men should go back to looking and acting like men.
Do you realize how many problems that would solve? If men would shed their petticoats and purses long enough to simply be men, they might regain control from the power-hungry, egotistical women that have taken their places.
I think we should each step back and recognize where we belong. I think we should never decide if we are a man or a woman. God made us one or the other.
Gentlemen, what are you thinking? Be men.
